More than 48,000 people were arrested for DUI in Illinois in 2008 — an average of 130 every day. DuPage County is notorious for heavy DUI enforcement, especially in Naperville and other hot spots. At 5,300 DUI arrests, DuPage County alone accounted for one out of every nine drunk driving cases statewide. Another 1,700 DUI arrests occurred in Kane County.

The "Average" Illinois DUI Offender:

  • Male (79 percent of DUI arrests)
  • Age 34 (more than 60 percent are under age 35)
  • Arrested between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. on a weekend
  • Caught driving with a BAC of .16 (twice the legal limit)
  • A first-time offender (83 percent have no prior DUI convictions)
